Гонейм, Эман

Эман Гонейм (англ. Eman Ghoneim, араб. إيمان غنيم‎) — египетско-американская учёная-геоморфолог. В марте 2006 года доктор Гонейм вместе с Фаруком Эль-Базом обнаружили кратер Кебира, вероятный крупнейший ударный кратер (астроблему) в пустыне Сахара. В 2007 году при обработке микроволновых космических данных она обнаружила древнее мега-озеро (30 750 км²), погребённое под сахарскими песками в Северном Дарфуре (Судан).

Биография и исследования

Эман Гонейм закончила географический факультет Университета Танта (Египет) с отличием, получив степень магистра в 1997 году. В 2002 году ей была присуждена докторская степень по географии на геофаке Саутгемптонского университета (Великобритания). В 2003 году она поступила на постдокторантуру в Центр дистанционного зондирования Бостонского университета (США). Именно с помощью этих данных она стала одной из первооткрывателей кратера Кебира. В 2010 году она присоединилась к факультету наук о Земле и океане Университета Северной Каролины Уилмингтон и стала директором Лаборатории дистанционного зондирования космоса и дронов (SDRS).

В 2017 году Гонейм вместе с 30 другими египетскими экспатриантками была приглашена в качестве эксперта в своей области для участия в конференции Таа Марбута. Конференция, которая была сосредоточена на роли египетских женщин в социальной, политической и экономической областях, была организована Министерством иммиграции и по делам египетских экспатриантов и Национальным советом по делам женщин.

Помимо своей исследовательской работы, Гонейм преподает в системе высшего образования с 1990 года. В знак признания её педагогической работы она была удостоена множества наград, в том числе Премии Совета попечителей за выдающиеся достижения в области преподавания Университета Северной Каролины в Уилмингтоне в 2018 году.
